And so another year comes to a close......

2011 was a great year for some (e.g. William and Kate) and not for others (e.g. Bin Laden).

For me it’s been a good one.

There’s a saying that 'the days are long but the years are short' so I can only hope that 2012 is as long and full of fabulous things as it can be for all of all my friends and family.

See you in 2012 xxx

Day 17 - A photo a day for 30 days!

Tiny horses or giant me?

York Art Gallery = not dull

Day 13 - A photo a day for 30 days!

Learning to fly on the moor!

Flying on the moor!

Buy some killer heels...done.

Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

Yey!  My first item ticked off the list!  A beautiful pair of sparkly heels!  Far too high for me to walk in but too beautiful to resist.

Such a huge achievement!  My mum will be so proud.

Day 12 - A photo a day for 30 days!

The 'Who wants to be a millionaire' Christmas game winners!  Youth prevail!

And so begins a classic....

Call me Ishmael.

Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen, and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off - then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

Day 8 - A photo a day for 30 days!

Beautiful baby Brooke and the tired lady

Philosophy Thursday (no longer sangria Thursday - sorry)

When my friend Hen and I were inter-railing we acquired (quite wrongly) a healing book from a campsite library in France.  The book provided us days of joy (laughter) as it slowly taught us how to forgive in a year (it was called 'A Healing Year").   We forgave, then forgot and had to forgive again.

Having just rediscovered the book, i opened it and the quote at the top of the page read:

"If you think you're going nuts, you might be right"

Excellent.

This book isn't as funny as it used to be.

Day 5 - A photo a day for 30 days!

Cat-astrophe averted!

Today I assisted in the rescue of a cat!  I hate the things, but seen as though it's Christmas i thought I'd better show a bit of goodwill.

Julie (seen posing beautifully above) has adopted biscuit (named by myself) and taken her home.  Unfortunately, Julie soon realised in the car on the way home that she isn't toilet-trained - naughty biscuit.

So, the lesson of today is "live and let live".

NB:- Biscuit has since escaped and is once again roaming free.... we tried our very best.

Day 1 - A photo a day for 30 days!

Sangria on a Thursday - should be law.

That's just how i roll!

A few years ago I proclaimed to my pals that I would attempt to live my life by Baz Luhrmanns 'Wear Sunscreen' lyrics from that day forward.  It would be my bible.

I didn't do it.

However, i do try to remember it when i'm in a muddle.  It has some great bits and some cheesy bits, but mainly great.

I will share its awesomeness...now.....

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not  understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked….
You’re not as fat as you imagine.
Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as  effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing
Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss
Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch
Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own..
Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the  people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young. Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

Who's with me?

Are any of my faithful friends up for a bout of bootcamp??
Smallprint - we can have wine after....

Tomorrow never comes.....well, actually it does....

Well, today is officially my final day of procrastination!

Tomorrow is the start of my 6 month countdown to 30 and to mark it i shall be busy in work all day and working into the evening!   Ok, maybe not the best start!

I have already begun working on my list.  I've booked myself several delicious hours of spa treatments for the 21st January which will, from this day forth(!) be officially and affectionately known as "My day of selfish indulgence"!

A kind man also offered to buy me a gun for Christmas today so i could tick 'fire a gun' off the list.   I declined.  Thought it might be more trouble than it's worth...

Thursday 8 December 2011

I'm up and running!

I have now signed up for the Big K 10km run on the 18th March 2012.   I've only taken part in one 10km run (jog/walk/crawl) before so my terrible time to beat is 1hr 7mins.  My aim this time is to beat the guy in the bear suit.....

Eggcellent advice!

The planning period....

A week to go until I enter the final 6 months of my 20's!  My new-found motivation will suddenly appear on the 14th December and I will begin the exciting task of starting my to-do list!  Now, what to do first....
